Understand your Job library with job profile analytics
Job Profile Analytics is a built-in analytics module in smartLibrary that gives you a real-time, interactive view of how your job library is structured, how thoroughly your job profiles are described with skills, and how future-ready your workforce is. It’s designed for HR, Talent Acquisition, and HR Business Partner professionals who want clear insights – all without leaving smartLibrary.
Key benefits
- Spot gaps at a glance – instantly see which jobs have few or no skills assigned, so you can prioritise enrichment efforts.
- Measure future readiness – understand what share of your library’s skills are growing in importance, helping you plan for the workforce of tomorrow.
- Assess automation exposure – see automation potential across your job library to inform reskilling and workforce planning decisions.
- Explore your job architecture – view how jobs are distributed across taxonomies and families to spot structural patterns.
- Drill from summary to detail – click through from any chart to a list, and from a list to an individual job or skill profile.
- Export for reporting – download any analytics section to Excel/CSV for presentations, planning documents, or board decks.
Before you start
You’ll need at least viewer access to a library to view its analytics. The Library Selector only shows libraries you have permission to access.
How to use it
Opening Job Profile Analytics
- Open smartLibrary.
- Click Analytics in the navigation.
- Select the library you want to analyse using the Library Selector.
KPI badges appear at the top of the page. Detailed analytics sections are displayed below.
Reading the KPI summary
Three key metrics are shown at the top of every analytics view:
| KPI | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Average Skills per Job | The average number of skills across all jobs in the selected library, including jobs with zero skills assigned. |
| Future-Oriented Skills (%) | The percentage of skills across your library that are marked as Increasing in importance. |
| Average Automation Potential (%) | The average automation potential score across all jobs in the library. |
Exploring the analytics sections
Below the KPIs, you’ll find seven analytics sections. Each includes a chart and, where applicable, a drillable list. Click any item in a list to open the relevant job or skill profile.
1. Job Family Architecture
Shows how your jobs are distributed across taxonomies. The chart displays the five largest taxonomies, with the rest grouped as Other. The list below shows all taxonomies with job counts — expand any taxonomy to see the jobs inside, then click a job to open its profile.
2. Average Skills per Profile
Shows how many skills jobs in your library have. Jobs are grouped into skill-count ranges (0 – 5, 6 – 10, 11 – 20, 21 – 40, 40+), with the library average highlighted. Click any job in the list to open it directly on its Skills tab (Current or Future).
3. Utilized Skills
Shows which skill taxonomies and individual skills appear most across your job profiles. The chart highlights the top five skill taxonomies. The list ranks skills by how many jobs use them – click a skill to see which profiles include it and at what proficiency level.
4. Skill Type Distribution
Breaks down skills by type: hard, soft, language, and education. The chart shows the proportion of each type across your library. The list shows per-job counts by type (for example, “Data Manager: 31 hard, 11 soft, 2 language, 2 education”).
5. Future Orientation
Mirrors the Future-Oriented Skills (%) KPI but lets you explore it at the job level. The list shows the percentage of Increasing skills per job. Click any job to review its skills on the Skills tab.
6. Future Skills
A list-only section that groups skills by future orientation: Increasing, Stable, and Decreasing. For each skill, you can see how many job profiles use it. Click a skill to view the profiles that include it and their proficiency levels.
7. Automation Potential
Shows how automatable the jobs in your library are. The chart displays the library-wide average automation potential. The list breaks this down per job – click any job to open it on its Automation tab for full details.
Filtering your analytics view
Use the filters at the top of the analytics page to narrow your view. All KPIs, charts, and lists update instantly when you change a filter.
- Profile Selector – switch between Current and Future profiles to see how your library looks today versus what’s projected.
- Library Selector – choose any library you have viewer access to.
- Dynamic Filters – filter by job hierarchy (taxonomy or job family), job seniority, job future orientation, skill future orientation, and skill type. You can combine multiple filters to narrow your view further.
Exporting analytics data
- Navigate to the analytics section you want to export.
- Click the Export button for that section.
- The data downloads as an Excel or CSV file, including the identifiers and values shown in that section (for example, job names, skill counts, automation potential).
You can export from any of the seven analytics sections independently. Use exports for board presentations, planning documents, or sharing insights with stakeholders.
Tips and best practices
- Start with the KPIs. The three top-line metrics give you a quick health check of your library – low average skills or a low future-orientation score are your cues to dig deeper.
- Use Dynamic Filters together. Combining filters (for example, a specific taxonomy and seniority level) helps you zero in on a particular population without losing the big picture.
- Jobs with zero skills still count. The Average Skills per Job KPI includes jobs with no skills assigned. Use the Average Skills per Profile section to identify those profiles and prioritize enrichment.
- Export before meetings. Pulling an export from Automation Potential or Future Orientation before workforce planning sessions gives you ready-made talking points.
