Skills to develop
By setting your development targets, you can get proper training recommendations, develop your skills that need improvement, or learn new skills from scratch.
There are several ways to add a skill to the list of skills to develop. You can do it on the My career tab of the Learning & Development area as well as on the Overview tab of the Job details page. For more details, see Identify skill gaps and Job details.
In addition, you can use the Skills to develop tab in the Learning & Development area to add a skill to develop. To this end, follow the steps listed below:
1. On the Learning & Development page, switch to the Skills to develop tab, and then click Add or + Add skill to develop. As a result, the Develop skills dialog shows.
Here you can see all skills you have added to your profile as well as the ones you have fulfilled, if any. So, you can select any of the available skills and specify for it the proficiency level you want to set as your development target, or search for a new skill you want to learn from scratch, for example.
Let us consider both use cases.
2. Under Your skills, click the skill you want to develop. Once you click the skill, it expands to show your proficiency levels. Click the required level.
As a result, the skill is added and shown under Selected skills.
3. To add a new skill, start typing its name into the search box, and then select the one you need from the list of suggestions. Once you click a suggestion, it expands allowing you to define a proficiency level. Click the level you need.
As a result, the skill is added and shown under Selected skills.
4. Once you have added all the skills you want to develop, click Save at the bottom of the Develop skills dialog.
As a result, the new development targets are added and stored on the Skills to develop tab. For every skill record, you can see the level you have defined as a development target. You can change it at any time by clicking the expander arrow next to the target level, and then clicking the level you want to set as your development target.
Once you reach the target level, the skill gets the Developed status. It is possible also to make a skill developed by clicking the three dots button within the skill record, and then clicking Mark as developed.
You can even filter skills in the list by status to show only developed skills, or not developed, or even all skill records at a time. By default, only not developed skills are shown in the list.
To view your current skill level vs the target skill level, point to the target level.
If you want to view skill details, click the three dots button within the skill record, and then click Open skill details, or just click the skill record.
To remove a skill from the list of skills to develop, click the three dots button within the skill record, and then click Remove from skills to develop.
In addition, for each skill, you can view a short list of trainings, if available, suggested to have in order to develop that skill. To this end, point to the open book icon within that skill record. To view the full list of training suggestions, click Show more in the tooltip.
Recommended skills to develop
You can also consider skills we recommend you to develop. These recommendations are based on the current and future jobs you have.
To view recommended skills to develop, click the banner on the Skills to develop tab. As a result, you are redirected to the Recommended skills to develop page.
Here, you can add a skill to your profile, add it to the list of skills to develop, or open skill details. To this end, first, click the three dots button within the skill record, and then skill the command of your choice.
You can also add a skill to the list of skills to develop by clicking a plus sign within that skill record in the Develop skill column. As a result, a plus sign is changed to a check mark, and the skill is added to the list of skills to develop.
